Pine Tree Model 20-22 cm is a part of Primo Models Tree Line Collection. They are high-quality handmade trees for creating natural and realistic model scenery within layouts and dioramas. Note: In order to achieve a more natural, and realistic looking tree line, we recommend that you vary your mix with different size ranges of our trees, as well as our Primo Bushes range.

Real Pine Tree History and Overview 

General Growth Information

Family/Genus: Pinaceae/Pinus

Subspecies: There are around 125 different species of pine. Some better known species are Red Pine, Scotch Pine, Ponderosa Pine, Black Pine and Yellow Pine.

Geographical Location: Pine trees are native to the northern hemisphere and grow in hot tropical climates, as well as cold subpolar climates. Some of the species were artificially introduced to the southern hemisphere.  

Habitat/Climate: They grow well on sandy or well-drained soil. They love rocky mountainous terrain. They can be found on attitudes of 4000 metres (13000 feet).

Lifespan: Most pine trees grow between 100 and 1000 years. It is not uncommon however to find them being much older. Two of the oldest known, slow growing bristlecone pine trees come from California’s White Mountains and are believed to both be around 5000 years old. They were named Methuselah and Prometheus and their exact location is a secret kept hidden by park services for protection purposes. They are the second oldest (known) surviving trees.

Height: Mature Pines can reach from 3 to 80 metres (10 to 260 feet). However the majority of them reach between 15 and 45 metres ( 50 to 150 feet) tall. The smallest are Siberian Dwarf Pine and Potosi Pinyon, and the tallest stands at 81.79 metres (268.35 feet) tall, the Ponderosa Pine in Oregon, USA.

Fruits/Seeds: They are the only species of tree that reproduce from seeds in cones. Some of the cone seeds grow to large sizes and are called “Nuts”. 20 different types of pine nuts are used in human diet.

Additional Interesting Information

Primary Uses: Thanks to its adaptability, long straight trunks and common availability. It is one of the most used tree types in the world. It has a broad use in the paper industry, as well as the furniture and construction market. Besides broad variety of use of the wood, pine trees are known for its resin which can be applied to waterproof items or can be used to make glue.

Traditional Uses: During the colonial times, settlers used hardened resin as dental filling. A tea known in Sweden as “tallstrunt” is high in vitamins A and C and made of pine needles. .

Other Info: Pine cones can take up to over 10 years before being dropped to the ground. Branches, needles and cone scales are arranged in line with the Fibonacci sequence (1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34…)
